Rolling My Dice...

Have you seen this cover photo of NBA on ESPN in Facebook? "A Champion Will Rise." What do you think? Do the Spurs deserve to be left out of this picture? :)

And how about the Grizzlies and the Pacers? Heck even the ill-fated Bulls deserve to be in this. I think the image is too early. I think the image just shows how marketing the NBA has gone to the exciting. Yes, the grind-it-out defensive teams Spurs and Pacers are too boring for them. It's quite unfair I think. They should have placed all eight teams there for the moment.

Anyways,...

I am rolling my dice now and have placed my chips on Roy Hibbert. Yep that is right. I know that this pick is in tune with my pick plan, but at the time of writing that blog post, I did not think the Pacers could steal a game at the Madison Square Garden. Now that they are tied 1-1, this pick makes it a gamble. What makes this riskier is the fact that Games 3 and 4 are going to played in Indiana. If home court advantage holds true (which I disagree), the Pacers will be up 3-1 before the series goes back to New York. Tell me I am wrong.

If you are with me, then you may pick Paul George or George Hill as an alternative. Leave David West for an elimination game as he becomes a free agent. If you are not with me, Carmelo Anthony is the only consistent pick in the Knicks; J.R. Smith comes second, albeit inconsistent. UPDATE: J.R. Smith may miss Game 3 due to fever.

With the Grizzlies and the Thunder, that is the series where I am having second thoughts. And so I will wait for Game 3's result before I pick from that series.

Live long and prosper.

  1. Regarding this pic, they are not promoting teams, they are promoting stars. That´s why there is KD even though his team is now the Underdog, Curry even though they play the savvy Spurs and Anthony, even though the Pacers now have homecourt and the Knicks have lots of talent but no real playoff experience (except for Chandler, Kidd and maybe Stoudemire). A pic like this is to be ecpected. They may have to change for the next round, if 2 or 3 of these guys are gone fishing (well, except of course LBJ).

As for tonight I still believe the Bulls will not survive this round so I am going to pick Nate Robinson. Tomorrow I relent and start picking a Thunder player. Rolling the dice here with Reggie Jackson in hoping they will concentrate more on Durant (good luck with that) and rebounds (too bad for Ibaka). Ah, I wish I had picked Martin in game 1 and Fisher in game 2.

    1. Good luck with the Reggie pick. You have more guts in picking a Thunder than I

  2. Would you reccomend using Joakim Noah this game?

  3. Haven't picked pacer or knick. Going with a pacer. So Paul George or Hibbert?

    1. Hibbert if you are playing 1-N-Done.
George if Drive To The Finals.

I am starting to differentiate the two games. In the former you need to preserve the big names in times of uncertainty. In the latter, the timing is less pronounced (although still important, take note).

  4. Alex... Here's your problem... If you want to pick a Thunder pick the best one. Durant will produce more or less the same each game. So it make no sense to reserve him. But... if you are completly sure Reggie wil get his best PRA of the series... Come on, pick him!

About me, I'm not sure about who will pass in both series... So I will pick on the team which offer me more consistent picks... And I think it is Indiana...

    1. I agree with quark. If you are braving the waters (in DTTF), might as well hang ten.

  5. Well, that´s the thing. I am not yet sure the Thunder are going out and would like to wait at least one or two games before that seems assured. If I pick Durant now and the Thunder regain homecourt the way the Spurs and the Heat did then that leaves me with yet another stud in future rounds. That´s why I am not starting from the top in this case.
