Unusual: European Power

Of course in the NBA most of the players are Americans, but there are also many great players from Europe. You know who was the best two highest scoring FP picks from yesterday? Right, two Europeans - Luka Doncic (65 FP) and Nikola Jokic (58 FP)... and there was more of Europeans in top10 as Giannis was 5th (50 FP) and Nurkic had 9th highest score (37 FP).

Also yesterday another European, Dragic, continued his Game 1 magic from last year (he had 24, 27 and 29 points respectively in first games of first three series of 2020 playoffs) as he had 25 points. Unfortunately for those who picked him, Porzingis wasn't great... Today we have another European players flying under the radar (but probably will not get top results) as Bogdanovics from Hawks and Jazz are playing and there is a big match-up in Utah-Memphis series with two European bigs in Gobert and Valanciunas.

As European, I feel European power as I took Luka yesterday and I'm sticking with it choosing Valanciunas as he had not good game against Warriors and he somehow doesn't have bad stats against Gobert, so I expect nice double-double from him in Memphis' loss.

I know it's unusual as most of people will take Beal/Westbrook or Paul/Booker as they're also expected to lose and are more popular (proven?) players. Some people will pick players from Hawks/Knicks (I want to wait with that series) and some will decide to choose Morant, but I'm afraid he will not be as good as against Warriors, so I'm going with Valanciunas, feeling European power.

Who are you picking today and why? And how did it went yesterday, better or worse than expected?

  1. Russ gets my pick today. I'm trying to pick players from the teams that I think will be eliminated earlier than the others.

  2. Yesterday worked exactly as I expected with my Jokic pick. I big game w/ a DEN loss. His 1 assist was disappointed compared to all the triple double Doncic folks and in Ken’s custom FPS league triple double bonuses are given so that was a bummer not to get from Jokic.

I’m going Booker today for a few reasons. I looked ahead at the schedule (finally) and saw another 2 day slate next Monday where I can def pick a Wizard. I’ll probably pick both Westbrook and Beal in games 2 and 3 of that series. The schedule for that and Jazz series are both spaced out nicely where their game 2s are the same days as other series’ game 3s I believe. Of course I already picked Westbrook in spreadsheet league so I’ll have to do a dif pick there but that’ll prob be my only discrepancy between leagues and it’ll all get ironed out in the first round.

Oh and other reason for going Booker. I sadly believe the Suns will lose the series but Booker has been waiting for this for years & he’s a super confident player. The dude has put up 70 in a game before! He’s excellent and if the Suns happen to win game 1 (which is possible as I don’t think it’ll be a blowout) Booker would HAVE to have gone big to get that result so I’d still be happy with the pick. Good luck everyone!

    1. Booker did exactly as planned & I'm thrilled (as a fan) for that PHX victory! That said, I'll likely avoid picking from this series until CP3 in an elimination game. I still believe the Lakers will win the series at this point & Ayton isn't exactly a "must pick". However if it plays like he did in Game 1, he may become one; I just don't trust him. That & if by some miracle the Suns advance, it'd be good to have him avail in the next round after exhausting the top 2 other options.

  3. Already 111 back, Jason has beaten me every day with the perfect picks! I haven't even made 1 perfect pick thanks to that mishap with the Pacers/Wizards game.

    1. Well, it's still early and there is a chance to pick better and with bad start, the pressure no longer exists ;)

  4. Yeah Porzingis is not a good pick for this series, despite his good outing in last year’s bubble. His time is being managed by the coaching and medical staff... sorta like pacing him to last the playoffs. He’ll be good only in an elimination game.

Kudos to the young stars, Ja and Trae and Ayton. Great performances in Day 2 of the playoffs!

    1. Yeah, also D-Book had big game ;)

With Porzingis I think he'll be better (30+ FP), but there is no sense for me to pick him as Mavs lead and I already picked Luka.

Valanciunas was solid, it wasn't bad pick, but Memphis win... I probably go European today again with Joker as it looks like elimination game for them - going 0-2 at home is almost impossible to come back from and I want to see how bad Giannis injury is, so maybe Miami has some chance to win series with Bam & Butler playing better than in Game 1. They're going to be probably great picks for today unless Heat wins.
