Eliminations and Tribulations

The Blazers are facing elimination against the superior Warriors, and it's a must-play to pick Lillard if you still have him. If you already have, then McCollum is still the safe play. Of course there's still inconsistency but we can live with a high 20s PRA from him.

Millsap and Schröder are good picks too for the 1-2 Hawks. They are better fantasy scorers than McCollum. I already picked those two and I do not see Dwight Howard giving me a double-double soon.

The Bucks and the Raptors' series is a little tough to crack now. Tied at two apiece, a Game 5 win is all it needs to force us fantasy players to start draining into the losing team's stars. If Raptors win (I hope), I only have Middleton left to pick. I am in no hurry to make that pick. If Bucks win, then it is a mad rush to pick DeRozan in Game 6, and potentially lose Lowry (because you are most likely to pick a Buck in Game 7 if needed).

Tuesday features an elimination game wherein the Rockets are looking to finish off the Thunder at home. Westbrook and the Thunder still have the fight, but they cannot win three straight games against the better team Rockets (even with a hobbled Harden). It's a must-play if you still have Westbrook available, and Andre Roberson for 25 PRA is a decent pick.

As for the other 2-2 matchups, anything can happen. The Spurs suddenly seem un-Spurs-like, and the Clippers are missing Griffin. However, if you are pretty confident in which team will not advance to Round 2, then you should start picking their stars now, because the logjam in games brought about the upsets will make it difficult to squeeze them in later. I myself can't fathom juggling Kahwi Lenard, Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan for Game 6 and 7. If you feel Clippers can't advance without Griffin, then start picking Paul and Jordan now.

Are you taking the risk?

UPDATE: Jimmy Butler for Wednesday. Rondo practicing jumpers with a broken thumb and hurt wrist... there's something wrong in that. Celtics are back!

  1. Tonight, I've got Dennis Schroder. I've used both Lillard and McCollum, and Nurkic is going to be out for Game 4, so I'm effectively out of Blazers. Seems like an easy call, though always risky to use the second player from the Hawks who are still very much in their series.

I was prepared to pick James Harden on Tuesday, expecting a huge game against OKC's "defense" compared to facing much tougher defense in the next round. However, with news he was dealing with an ankle injury in Game 4, I'm holding off on that. I'll probably just pick Oladipo in order to preserve more players for the next round from UTAH / LAC.

Wednesday will be Jimmy Butler. With Rondo injured, I'm more confident that the Celtics will win this series. Game 6 might be a better time, but that's reserved for the LAC / UTAH series, so Game 5 it is!

Thursday: Reserved for MIL / TOR

Friday: Reserved for LAC / UTAH.

I am in a different position for monday, as I already picked both Blazers, and I have one of the main Hawks to pick at home. Millsap on Google Drive, Schröder on Fantasy Postseason.

For tuesday I considered picking Harden, as he probably will not score so much against (probably) the Spurs, or even the Grizzlies. But his last weak PRA, plus he saying at the tv flash interview his ankle was bothering him, makes me not want to risk. I will take Rudy Gobert, as he looked very good yesterday, and I hope his minutes will increase next game. I also prefer saving Hayward because he was ill, and because he would be a better player to have against fast paced Warriors.

I have already planned which games to pick from everyday until game 6 of each series (a Bull, a Buck or Raptor, and a Jazz/Clipper), I still trust the Spurs. A Grizzlies win in game 5 would ruin all my plans...

  3. Greg Monroe on google drive and Damian Lillard on fantasy postseason. I was initially picking Middleton but then I just discovered I used him on day 1 so I avoided embarrassment! I've used the top 2 Trail Blazers on google drive but haven't touched either on fantasy postseason thanks to missing a day that the POR/GS series took place, I should have had McCollum that day. I think the Wizards will beat the Hawks but I'm not so sure after the game 3 Hawks blowout after 2 close Wizard wins in DC. I've already used up Dwight Howard in both games to no avail (23 FPG1, 14 GDG2) and used Dennis Schröder on fantasy postseason in Game 3.

  4. Roberson seems like a very risky pick. If you were to pick a thunder I think Oladipo would be the way to go. Anyways I got Chris Paul on Tuesday as without Griffin and the return of Gobert the Clippers are going to do what the Clippers always do.

  5. Can't believe you're gonna pick Roberson. My strategy this year is to not leave any potential big name guys unpicked & there are plenty to choose from ahead of Roberson. Westbrook is the ONLY OKC player to pick in my opinion. There are too many other series potentially still in the balance to justify another OKC pick IMO

    1. Allow me to present a counterpoint here, as it depends highly on who you have available. There are only three games on the schedule tomorrow: MEM @ SA, OKC @ HOU, and UTAH @ LAC. If you have one of Gasol or Conley available, then the choice is a bit easier, and you pick one of them. If you don't, the choice is much more complicated.

Is it better to pick a solid, 20 PRA OKC player who for sure will be eliminated, or is it better to pick one of Rudy Gobert (28 PRA) or DeAndre Jordan (27 PRA) who might be around in the next round? Doing so could force a bad pick in Round 2. Plus, Golden State lack big men, so both of those guys could be quite valuable next round.

I'd argue Oladipo could be a good pick, and Roberson as well. PRA so far:
      Roberson: 27, 20, 22, 17
      Oladipo: 12, 23, 20, 21
      Jordan: 25, 33, 31, 23

DeAndre Jordan is only a slight upgrade on those two, and might be needed next round. I'll take slightly less PRA now to ensure more PRA later. I don't have a great read on who will win LAC vs. UTAH, but I'll pick Chris Paul and Gordon Hayward in Game 6 & 7, depending on who faces elimination.

Final point: I've had plenty of success this year playing the 2nd guard option against Houston. That's the guy James Harden will cover. That's Oladipo. He's yet to have a big game this series. Will it be Game 5? I'll give it a go!

  6. Also, I have McCollum today just like you. Tomorrow I've got Conley though. Spurs will right the ship. Can you imagine them losing 3 in a row? No way.

  7. Oookay. I picked Rudy Gobert (in FP) when he got injured after playing 14 seconds. Now I picked Hayward when he had what? Food poisoning? Really? Needless to say I also picked Paul from a Clippers team where Griffin is out of the playoffs. (But, to be fair, I also picked Griffin in FP)

The Thunder are going down (no surprise) and I completely botched any chance of a decent Westbrook pick. Missed him for his 74, missed his 63, now had to pick him in GD and FP in game 5 on the road. Ah well.

Now if the Spurs screw up g5, then there will be major problems.

    1. Also missed his 88.

    2. I believe Westbrook will again have a 60+ point performance in an elimination game.

    3. I'm more worried about the Wizards then the Spurs. Two single digit home wins followed by 2 double digit road losses got me worried. Spurs 2 double digit wins including G1 by 30+, 1 double digit and 1 single digit loss on the road.

    1. Thank Taong for jinxing our CJ pick mentioned in the post lol. Don't worry, this was the hottest pick of the night at 21%. My first worsest pick of the postseason.

  9. For Tuesday, my pick has become more complicated. As much as I would rather pick a safe OKC reserve player I just can't. Due to the Hawks-Wizards playing G6 on the same day facing elimination. I hope the Wizards can finish the Hawks up in 6 so I can pick my last best remaining Hawk. If not, we will missed out on at least one Wizard. Tonight, I just have to a pick a player from the LAC-UTAH series that will lose so I don't worry about on Friday.

Wednesday - Reserve for a Bulls player since the ATL-WSH series is tied at 2-2.

Thursday - Reserved for a Buck player. I can see this series goes 7 games.

Friday - Hopefully, either a Hawk/Wiz player depending on the result of my Tuesday pick.

    1. Got Chris Paul tonight. I'm banking on Utah to win this series. This is surprising, Rondo might play in G5 so might pick will be a Hawk and delay the either a CHI/BOS player for Friday.

  10. And already the time of the jam has come. Or the time of the easy choices. I have to pick Westbrook in an elimination game, as I hadn´t picked him before. I have to pick Giannis A. in an elimination game as I hadn´t picked him yet. I don´t have to worry about the other series on these days. A little quiet before the storm.

  11. Great picks til this last two days. Two bummers. Guess it is inevitable. So much for safe picks.

  12. DeAndre Jordan in google drive, as I feel better banking on the Clippers to lose than win given that Blake Griffin is out. Russell Westbrook in fantasy postseason.

I expected the Clippers to win yesterday. Now Gobert pick turned to be a bad one. For next 3 days Butler, Antetokounmpo and Paul are so obvious for everyone that didn't pick them yet

  14. I'm breaking my same player rule for the rest of this round by taking Butler in both games. Initially I had Wade on FP but I just discovered that BOS/CHI G6 occurs on the same day as LAC/Utah G6 so I am saving that day for Clippers and forgoing Wade (most likely). Likewise G6 of TOR/MIL and SA/MEM are both tomorrow so I am probably taking Giannis Antetokounmpo in both games (definitely in FP) and possibly missing out on Marc Gasol in google drive.

  15. three bad picks in a row for me sighh.
cj, cp3 (bad in terms of last few games) and jimmy buckets today.

this pretty much killed my chances

  16. Giannis is obvious pick today. Got a dilemna tomorrow though. Got deandre and jimmy left. Jimmy is the better pick but I feel like the Clippers for sure are going to lose game 6 so I got deandre hoping the bulls can take it to 7.
