Best of Three

On the 26th, we have to pick from Pacers-Raptors' Game 5 because the Celtics-Hawks' Game 6 will be the lone match on the 28th. In a best-of three series, the Raptors are now the general favorites to win the series. However with each already have won on the road, it's free-for-all. That Game 1 Pacers win influenced me to pick a Raptor in Game 2 which clearly was a gamble. Now, sticking to that gamble (and being lucky) may pull me back in the race. It's a risk too early but I have to stick to my guns. I got Valuncianas next.

On the 27th, there is the dilemma of the Clippers' loss of Chris Paul and possibly Blake Griffin too. If I'm Rivers I won't risk Griffin anymore if losing Paul means never getting out of Round 2 anyway. Most of us picked the Blazers' Lillard already and now are in a situation that sticking to our guns may not be such a good idea anymore. Even for anyone like myself who is looking to get lucky, there is uncertainty. Without Paul, I don't see them winning Game 5 nor 6, but I've been wrong before. It's hard.

Luckily there is still the Hornets-Heat matchup on the 27th. Despite the 2-2 standing, I believe the Heat will still win the series especially that Deng is playing well. While most of us already picked Kemba Walker, there are still options there from the Hornets. I like what I've seen from Jeremy Lin lately so I am picking him, but others can try Al Jefferson or Marvin Williams.

Or if you want to be super safe in who you pick, you can always pick a Rocket ;)

Good luck!

  1. Oh no! I was going to take Jonas. Scratch that, back to the drawing board. No idea what to do tonight. Maybe Horford? Teague? Everyone else has in the Google league bet on Atlanta getting through, only Jason and I haven't picked Thomas... so it would be smart to pick a Hawk and hope Boston lasts. I don't mind wasting a Hawk either, because no matter who gets through, Cleveland wins it.

Tomorrow, I'm going Jamal Crawford, JJ Redick or Deandre Jordan. Probably Jamal. Again, I'm the only one not to pick a Blazer (4/11 of the league have picked both guards), so I'm in great shape going into a Curryless Blazer-Warrior series. Hopefully they can close it out.

    1. Go Bismack Biyombo? I dare you to do that and actually make it work ;)

    2. If I can make Zaza work, I'll make Biyombo work. Against Cleveland. Book it.

    3. Should have listened to my sage advice and picked Biyombo ;)

  2. Valanciunas is the best possible plan here unless you're convinced one of the teams is winning or - like Taong - have already picked from one of the teams and want to stick to your guns.
Jonas has been the most consistent player on that Raptors team and even if they advance, who knows if he'll be capable of putting up similar numbers next round versus the Heat/Hornets.
Plus Lowry and DeRozan will definitely play better next round again.
So all signs point to JV and I hope he keeps it going for tonight

  3. This is where things get fun.

You are completely right about Hawks vs. Celtics. On Thursday for game 6, that is the only game. I've put myself in a good situation with picking no players from that series. I'll sit back and pick either Millsap or Thomas in game 6.

I also am in a good position for Raptors and Pacers, and haven't made a pick there either. I'm going with the Raptors to win, so tonight I've gotta pick Paul George. Can't wait any longer, since I will likely need Friday to pick from the Clippers/Blazers. Go Raptors!

For tomorrow, things get crazy. I've only picked McCollum, Batum, and Walker from those series (excluding the Rockets). So I'm in a decent position if the Blazers come back and take this. I made a big investment against the Hornets by picking two, so I'm now really relying on the Heat to pull this off. My pick for the night could be many things. For the spreadsheet leagues, I have until just before gametime to decide. That gives me 1-2 hours of information about the Heat vs. Hornets. Names like Jamaal Crawford, Blake Griffin, JJ Redick, and Mason Plumlee have been rolling through my head. We will see what I decide once the game comes.

I always love picking close series in the first round. Nerve wracking for this pool, but really fun.

    1. Definitely. Who is even left to pick from? Crawford and JJ?

    2. DeAndre Jordan suddenly got interesting. 20/20 ain't impossible. Let's see if he's the franchise cornerstone Dallas tagged him to be.

    3. He's not.

Doesn't matter if he gets 20/20. He's just not :)

Paul George a man amongst boys out there tonight. Pick your favourite Raptor for game 6, everyone.
