Home Court Advantage

Day One of the 2013 Playoffs went by and we saw each of the four home teams win their respective games. Winning Game 1 makes a big difference, as history tells us that only about one in every four Game 1 losers went on to rally and win the series.

The Knicks handled the Celtics pretty well I'd say. Melo was the bright spot. (Note that while he was the top PRA at 43, their game win should nudge us a little into thinking he is better picked in the later rounds.)

The Clippers blew by the Grizzlies. I think there is something wrong with the Grizzlies. I cannot pinpoint it but that's what it felt like during the game. That was an ugly game for them. You may now pick Marc Gasol for Game 2 and hope for another 40-minute outing with a more favorable result.

The Nuggets escape with Andre Miller's game winner. But that was one heck of a ballgame. It was a close game and it could have gone the other way. The Nuggets and the Warriors are more evenly matched than I thought. Assuming David Lee will play, I cannot readily recommend now picking for this series until the Nuggets are up 2-0 or the Warriors up 2-1. [UPDATE: Lee now out for season.]

The Brooklyn Nets win their first ever playoff game, and I congratulate Brooklyn fans! You guys deserve that win. Many had the Bulls winning this match, but after seeing how Joakim Noah was limited by his injury, I am now prepared to close the book on the Bulls. On Day Three, my pick is Carlos Boozer.

Without much help from Noah and Luol Deng still yet to find his groove, I hope Boozer duplicates his Game 1 performance.

Who's your pick?

  1. Gasol, Conley or Boozer... My 3rd pick is among them...

    1. Gasol n Boozer are ok. Conley maybe not yet; pick him later

    2. I'm not sure Nets will pass... I think Bulls have some options. So, my pick is Gasol.

    3. Noah played 25 mins. Deng found his groove. They won. Ugh!

Can they continue to do that? I'm staying away from that series for now.

    4. Wrong Grizz... The bet should be Conley... Sic!

    5. Almost noone picked Conley anyway, that's fine

  2. For day 3 only two series to pick from, and it´s both 4-5 seed that´s so hard to determine, even if both home teams cruised to easy victories. I´ll go with a Grizzlie for now, and I hope Z-Bo reacts to his mediocre (for him) game 1.

    1. Hate Z-Bo's Game1. Gasol might be a better pick.

  3. That´s why I´m picking Z-Bo. I hope he hates his game 1 too and responds. Might backfire. But that´s the fun (ugh) of DTTF.

Yesterday, of the 3 pickable Hawks I got the worst in Horford, Smith and Teague were way better. I wanted to get him out of the way as soon as possible and now realize I probably won´t pick 3 Hawks in the first round. Should have started from the top. One would think I would have learned after playing this game for a few years now.

    1. The Horford pick was not bad pre-game coz in 1st round, we pick 2 best in each team. Just unlucky there. Stay the course and you'll be alright many times than not.
