PLAY-IN MADNESS: Day 1 & Beyond

The Play-In Tournament is now underway & is as exciting as ever. Yesterday's games were very competitive with the Heat becoming the first regular season 7 seed to lose a Play-In game since the format began a few years back. And the Lakers almost joined them having to win their game in OT against an undermanned Wolves team that may as well not have had Anthony Edwards (worst game ever) along with Gobert (suspended) & McDaniels (just plain dumb).

As far as today's games go, I'm also expecting some fierce competition. It seems likely to me that SGA will have a huge game for the Thunder, but that the Pelicans will still manage to win that game (hence me picking SGA in the Google Drive League for today). And as far as Bulls/Raptors go, that's more of a toss-up IMO. While the Bulls have the pseudo star power needed to pull off a win, I simply believe the Raptors are the tougher team based on all the NBA I've watched this season so I give the edge to Toronto.

Who do ya'll feel will win the games today? What'd you think of the games yesterday? And which teams will ultimately make it into the playoffs from this point?

  2. You are welcome for my decision to not pick Towns and allowing you to have a big score. I am going to hate the Wolves in this game xD

I agree with your predictions for today, though I don't see a favourite in the east game. But maybe the Raptors have the advantage of playing at home. Let's see what DDR can do against his old crowd, they need a big game from him

    1. I'm so glad I went with Towns over Edward, LOL. I only did it because of no Gobert or McDaniels so I guess I outta thank those guys for acting like fools for my benefit.

  3. That was not the playoff Heat team we have come to expect the last three years. Where was Oladipo? New Hawks bench came with intensity.

  4. The Lakers game yesterday was exciting enough. Edwards had an off-night. Kat had a good first half, but had minimal effect on the latter half due to Lakers D and foul trouble. Love Conley in that game, Lakers had some good moments.

Pelicans should win vs OKC, but I just want to see an upset. Go Giddy, triple-double!

Tuning now to Bulls@Raptors. Raptors got this 🤞

    1. I wouldn't mind an OKC upset, but Ingram has been ballin lately and I'd love to magically see Zion back in action if the Pelicans make the playoffs. Raptors look good so far as I expected. How about Conley and Lowry yesterday. The seasoned veteran point guards single handedly kept their teams in those games even though it wasn't enough.

    2. VanVleet! with that half court bomb!!

    3. Well the Bulls offense that I was worried about came alive. Lavine is king.

    4. Demar's daughter forcing 18 missed free throws... that should be illegal. Game ball to her for sure though.

    5. They fined Pinson and Mavs bench last playoffs. But they won’t touch a kid. Good job, girl!

    1. Raptors completely choked. But Zach Lavine flipped his switch for sure.

  6. Lotsa clutch moments this play-in. Enjoying it.

Still hate the play-in though, wish we scrap it :D
In-season tournament format looks okay though.

  7. Four games played, and not a single home team won after 48 minutes. Lakers won in OT (and should never have had to play that if not for that foul by AD), but the rest? And all this for the sake of getting clobbered by the top teams? I am not sure I like that play-in-format. I mean, everybody prepares for the playoffs, and the top-seed does not know who they play until five minutes from tip-off? Hmm...

Well, good to know that I still know how to start strong. I still lead in GD. I usually start to drop as soon as the real games begin.

    1. Am I the only one that loves the Play-In format as it currently is? Those games were exciting and the #1 shouldn’t need to prepare for any Play-In team limping into the playoffs. If they can’t dismantle a team ranked 7-10th in the Conf then they just choked and deserve to go fishing IMO

    2. I actually like it. Play-in games are exciting, plus since we have the 9th and 10th seed involved there are more teams playing for something until the end of the regular season

    3. I think whatever format they think of, it’s the additional games that will entertain us. Like the norm nowadays — it’s additional "content". I do enjoy the additional games.

What I don’t like is the way this was designed for and not working as intended.
      * discourage tanking, but tankers just became more pro at it :P
      * give more chance to more teams, but it’s dilluting the honor of getting to the playoffs. now, more sub-500 teams are getting in (most of the time they’re just cannon-fodder). there’s 82 chances to be worthy of the playoffs, and yet a team can s*ck all season and then sprint at the end for a spot — not likely a fair go.

now the in-season tourney is better because it only adds two games (finals) and looks more of a natural fit, not too forced.
