First Round Strategy: Sunday's Games

Yesterday, we started the Drive to the Finals season off by looking at the Saturday matchups. Today, we examine the Sunday matchups. Sunday is a little bit easier, with a few matchups that feel far more certain.

Miami @ Boston
Miami went on an impressive run last season as an underdog, but with Jimmy Butler now out, this series feels as close to a lock as you are ever going to see. You can safely pick Miami players as early and often as you desire. You can also expect a slight uptick on their season average PRA due to Jimmy Butler being out.

Top Picks:
MIA: Tyler Herro 31.1 PRA
MIA: Bam Adebayo 33.6 PRA

Dallas @ LA Clippers
This series is too close to call. Dallas and the Clippers seem to always matchup in the playoffs, and it always feels like an instant classic. In theory, you should avoid this series early. However, if Kawhi Leonard is healthy enough to play, you might want to pick him while you can. I've lost Kawhi a number of times before I had the chance to pick him. If he's cleared to play on Sunday, I'm going to pick him in any league that does not have a round multiplier.

Top Picks:
LAC: Kahwi Leonard 33.4 PRA
LAC: Paul George 31.5 PRA
LAC: James Harden 30.2 PRA
DAL: Luka Doncic 52.9 PRA
DAL: Kyrie Irving 35.8 PRA

Indiana @ Milwaukee
I would expect Milwaukee to win under normal circumstances, but the health of Giannis puts this one more in doubt. I would, with 100% certainty, give this series a game or two before looking towards it. I only have Indiana players written down for top picks, but will look Milwaukee's way if the series goes Indiana's way.

Top Picks:
IND: Tyrese Haliburton 34.9 PRA
IND: Pascal Siakam 32.8 PRA

New Orleans @ Oklahoma City
The injury to Zion Williamson means that Oklahoma City are heavily favoured here. With Zion out, feel confident picking Pelican players and getting their points with an increased role.

Top Picks:
NOP: Brandon Ingram 31.6 PRA
NOP: CJ McCollum 28.9 PRA

Who are you picking?

AD's pick yesterday was great, very popular though. I totally agree with your point of view, I am starting with Herro today. It looks like the most certain result of any series between the Celtics great season and Butler being out

  2. Thought about picking Portis before Greek Freak returns, but I'll probably end up with Bam, as Bucks and Pacers plays on Tuesday again.

  4. Herro's performance this G1 was an indication that the Celtics were ready for him. Bam was the better pick and is a safe pick for G2.

  5. Herro and Ingram both disappoints picks in both leagues for me. Figured one would hit, oh well.
