Series Tied 2-2: The Dilemma

We officially have series in the East and West Finals!

Both series are tied 2-2, so all of our decisions have now been made a lot tougher. This is great for the game of Drive To The Finals. If everything is easy pickings, then it also makes for a less interesting game. Now we can separate the contenders from the pretenders based on who makes the right picks.

I don't feel like the East is going to make a huge difference. The Cavs only have LeBron and Love as must pick, and people will make sure they are picked if Cleveland faces elimination in Game 6 or 7. Otherwise, Boston players will likely be picked.

The West, on the other hand, might be where this game is won or lost. After Houston lost Game 1, everybody has been picking Rockets. Now that the series is tied 2-2, we might be getting more of a split in the game. Are you willing to risk losing Warriors and continue picking Rockets? What if you switch to picking Warriors and they make the NBA Finals? Who will you have left for the Finals? If you want to win Drive to the Finals this year, you need to get this series right. Personally, I've got James Harden picked for Game 5. I like Golden State in 6 or 7. If Houston goes up 3-2, though, I'll pick a Warrior, because PJ Tucker is the only remaining pickable Rocket for me.

Good luck navigating these series!

  1. I already picked both LeBron and (unluckily) Love, so it's Marcus Morris for me tonight. If they win I want to save Rozier at least for the Finals. And I still bet for the Warriors, probably picking Tucker tomorrow, I hope Ariza for game6 in elimination game. If Rockets win 5th, then maybe I will think about picking one Warrior.

    1. I see Morris is coming off the bench tonight, I still hope he will play enough minutes...

  2. Game 6 East, I’m picking LeBron. I hope Boston closes em out. Or else, ugh!

    1. This series will be won by the first team who shows up on the road. Alternatively, Boston will win this series.

  3. Not enough time to make a post. But here are my next picks...

    May24: Ariza
    May25: James
    May26: Harden

    Let’s go Dubs!

  4. You know what bugs me the most about this? Right now, most of us have picked the Celtics and Cavs mostly clean, at least by the time this will be over. You are lucky if you have one good pick left from the East-Finalist. And with the way the conference finals in the west are going, who are you going to have left there? Is there anybody with Harden AND Paul left? And if you have Curry and Durant (like I do, coincidentally), you HAVE to pick one of ´em in g5. Imagine you don´t, the Rockets win at home (it IS possible, you know), then you have to take both of them in g6 and g7. In the end, not much left from the West-Finalist, either.

Only chance? All-in. Pick Rockets and hope the reigning champion somehow gets through. That is the only possible way.

Now about the part that bugs me. We all know it´s a marathon, not a sprint. But every year there are guys atop the charts that tend to pick James, Curry, Durant and Harden early on, and we hardly ever catch these guys, because, how are we supposed to? By picking J.R. Smith, Aron Baynes, Shaun Livingston and Gerald Green? They never can close a 200 point gap.

Solution: Bring back the multipliers :)

  7. So...it's Green Day for me.

At first I thought that I only have one decent option from the Rockets in Ariza. So even if there's a game7 I'd have to spend one Warrior (I was thinking about Draymond Green). But with CP3 injured it opens for a new green option. And without him I believe even more in the Warriors chances. I don't know which player will enter the rotation, but I expect Gerald Green to play more minutes, and he gets my pick.

For tomorrow without Love, Jeff Green will be my next green pick. If the Rockets advance I would be a basket case, but I get a little more depth for the Finals if the Warriors win in 7. I will still not have 21 guns for the Finals, but I hope the Warriors will make it a little less difficult.

    2. What else to do being at 212th in FP and 22th in GD? Try something different, or just raise the white flag and wait for some months to play again. You know, when september ends...

    3. Talk about a boulevard of broken dreams right there.

    4. My green pick is finally in red colour. I am a walking contradiction. Nice guys finish last xD

  8. I've got Steph Curry tonight. My only remaining good option on Houston is PJ Tucker. Yuck. I'll save that for Game 7. With Paul out, I've got Curry to light it up. My NBA Finals picks are gonna be super sketchy. As all of ours will be. I look forward to the fun!
