Triple Threat

Three games where the lower seed leads 1-0. It is possible that one of these series will have the lower seed advance to the 2nd round. But which one?

MIL@TOR. The Raptors should still win this series. It's just that Giannis and the Bucks are not looking like they are going to give the Raptors the chance. Lowry needs to assert himself more and the Raptors need to play D the way they are known for. I'll bet on the Raptors to figure it out, but I am willing to wait.

CHI@BOS. It is unfortunate, really, that Isaiah Thomas had to be put into his current situation. I know his beloved sister wouldn't want him to waste this opportunity. Seed 1. Now if only Butler and the Bulls stop suddenly being a different team like they were in the regular season. I want the Celtics to win this series.

UTA@LAC. Rudy Gobert is injured and Joe Johnson cannot carry this team every game. None of that is in Jazz's original script. This is a different team altogether, and they cannot possibly keep getting lucky. Paul, Griffin and Rivers are winning this series.

It's Gordon Hayward for me in FP and Google Drive ;)

Good luck to me :P

UPDATE: Millsap for Day 4 :)

UPDATE 2: Sorry quite busy week. George for Day 5 :) Some good advise below in the comments from everyone!

Comments

  1. I can understand the doubts coming from away teams winning the first game... but what actually matters is how the series will end; and everyone has a candidate for each one. So, you should pick on that way.

  2. I'm gutted that I missed the first two days of picks as I didn't see the new postseason website! I finished 65th last year and I was hoping to do better this year!

Anyway, I had a bad pick last night with the Pacers and Turner! I already picked Hayward for tonight as well.

    Good luck everyone.

Definitely I will take the chance to pick Derrick Favors today, as I wouldn't bet a lot against any team of the 6 playing at this point. And I hope Favors will give me at least the same points that I would get if I need to pick secondary players later because I picked a star today that will advance to the semis. Just trying to be cautious

    1. Favors knows this is his chance to shine and he has to grab it before Gobert returns, although he may be option 4 in that team.

I know he will not take a lot of shots, I hope at least he can grab rebounds and stay out of foul trouble. I don't ask too much from him. Though it would be an even better option if we had multipliers for next rounds :-)

      Delete
    3. I like the idea of using Favors here. It's a safe pick to preserve players. I'm going with the more aggressive play on Griffin, but can't argue playing it safe and seeing how the series play out.

I also like your Griffin pick. But I just think it will be at least a long series to use him later, if the Jazz are going to advance.

    5. That is, assuming Blake Griffin hasn't tweaked his knee, sprained his ankle, or gotten himself suspended for kicking a puppy by then.

    1. Picking the dysfunctional team over a disheartened star eh?

    2. Outcome was as expected. If only Thomas had done better. I have Hayward lined up next. He hasn't had a big game yet so I'm hoping he will at home. To second Tangent, Joe Johnson simply cannot be relied upon to score as much as he has so far.

  6. Picked the Bulls to win the series before the Thomas tragedy. I just feel the Bulls have found their rotation & they're healthy enough.

  7. Tonight is going to be a lot of fun. Drive to the Finals is at it's most exciting when we are forced to make challenging decisions, trust our gut instinct, and ride with that. Tonight is definitely a challenge. And my gut instinct is saying I'm confident in Toronto coming back, and very unsure about the other two series. That being said, I want to save Giannis for later, since there is no rush on picking Bucks. Giannis is the only must pick. I have another idea in mind.

The safest series from tonight is the LA Clippers vs. Utah Jazz. Why? Because no matter who wins the series, that team will not make it past Golden State next round. So I don't mind making the wrong call on the series. If the LA Clippers are to lose, than Blake Griffin and Chris Paul are must pick players for round 1, and it's dangerous to save them for too late. Unlike many people here, I do feel the Jazz can win this series, even without Gobert. They are a great defensive team, and they've stolen home court. The Jazz have homecourt now, and the Utah fans should be pretty nuts after missing the playoffs for so many years.

I've got Blake Griffin tonight. He should have lots of room to operate with Gobert out. Plus, for a series with Golden State if I'm wrong about this series with Utah, he'd be guarded by Durant and Green, two of the premier defensive players in the NBA.

So Griffin with the big game tonight, and Utah win the series in 6. That's my gut. I'm going with it, but prepared to be flexible if LA wins a game in Utah.

    1. None, but there is a workaround...

Menu > League Home > Click username > Email User > get the lu_id number from the address bar of your browser and change the lu_id number in this url...

      https://www.fantasypostseason.com/league/scoring_per_game/60719?pl_id=All&lu_id=307901

That btw is the current leader's pick history.

  9. Hey guys, I'm back for the moment. I'm afraid I'm only doing the Google Drive league, living abroad for the year and spend the past 2 weeks showing my parents around; and this weekend my girlfriend is arriving for another two weeks. I'm going to keep up my picks, but will be much less active than in years past.

Tangent is doing a great job managing the Drive almost by himself. I'll be back home next year to manage Pick to the Playoffs (Same format over a whole year over Google Drive), which was in testing this year and will be able to host many more players next season, as well as the regular Google Drive. If this year is any indication, we'll be able to expand even more next year.

I'm not counting out Boston yet, so no IT pick just yet, but that series may give me a headache. At least both teams only have one player worth picking. I fully believe in Washington and SAS, so it'll be Millsap and the big Spaniard the next two days for me.

    1. We are thinking about this the same way. I'm in no hurry to pick Isaiah Thomas yet. I'll give the #1 seed one final chance to start a Dallas Mavericks vs. Houston Rockets-esque comeback. Plus, Game 3 Boston vs. Chicago is the same day as Game 3 Houston vs. OKC, and that's the day I've locked in my Russell Westbrook pick. If OKC wins game two, however, that idea might change to Isaiah Thomas.

  10. At first I thought "Ah, I always have the worst luck with the timing of my picks", but then I go here, see the reasoning and realise I often suck at picking the right player.

In googledrive I had a bit of bad timing. Day 1 Paul George (41) and day 3 Marc Gasol (21). The other way would have been slightly better (Gasol for 39 and George for 47). Then I go here and everyboday is all "save Marc Gasol for a home game, there is always the possibility of a rout". What happened in g2 in San Antonio? Marc G struggles early on, most of the first half consists of garbage time, Conley and Randolph do most of the stuff for the comeback. Obviously, not bad luck but a bad pick from me.

My Gobert pick in the Fantasy Postseason thing was bad luck, but I have to admit that the Jazz are the team that seems to be the least likely to get the series. So picking Paul and Griffin in both games seems not to be a good idea. Should have gone to another series.

As long as it is not the Celtics - Bulls series. 2-0 for the Bulls? Really? Of course I already picked Jimmy Butler in g1.

I am really not a good picker, am I?

And worst of all, I will be without internet until sunday. So I have to pick in two games four days without any chance to react to what is happening. This will not end well.

Today I am picking my Blazer star left, Lillard. It's the only one I am competely sure that will be out this round. I also think the Wizards will advance, but I prefer Hawks at home.

In FP I already picked Lillard, and I don't feel confident about CJ playing great again tonight, so I pick Millsap

  12. I changed from Westbrook to Lillard last minute today upon news of no Kevin Durant. I'm hoping Lillard sees this as opportunity to go nuts & steal a game.

I am confident he will do it again. Maybe he will need to take 50-55 shots, but isn't he capable of doing it? At home, with everyone cheering him...

    2. Westbrook's average PRA this season was above 50. So getting to a number like 74 again is definitely possible.

If someone told me yesterday JaVale McGee will do it better than Lillard I would have sent him to the asylum. At least I picked CJ and Lillard in the right order...to say something positive

  15. Tonight, we have CLE-IND and SA-MEM both at 2-0, and TOR-MIL at 1-1, so clearly the pick must be either a Pacer or a Grizzly. I've already picked Paul George and Mike Conley, so that leaves Marc Gasol and Jeff Teague as the top options. I like Marc Gasol to do well tonight, so I'll make him my pick. Hopefully I can still pick Jeff Teague on a later day.

Also my compatriot Marc is the best choice for me. I guess Marc and Westbrook for next two days will be very popular, but weekend is coming with 4 games a day, and it's too risky to wait to pick them

  16. Two red picks in a row on google blog and apparently I forgot to make a pick for fantasy postseason yesterday putting me in the 300s rankings. Dwight Howard has burned me in both games with invisible performances so far getting 23 on FP in G1 and only 14 on google blog.
