Panic Time?

So I am working 10-hour shift today and I am currently having my two-hour break. Took to a local pub looking for Warriors' Game 3. There on the screen, 30-point Thunder lead in the third quarter. I thought, 'Sh..'. I bought myself a pint of beer. I'll continue this entry when I get home after work. Let me see if this beer is worth it.

UPDATE: OKC wins it 133-105! Alright @topknox, Thunder Up? should be Thunder Up! Anyone interested in a Game 4 pick of Klay Thompson and Game 5 Steph Curry? Tell me why, and also why not! See you in 7 hours...

UPDATE 2: I traced Draymond Green's game logs playing on the road at OKC, looking for any decent game. I went 2016, 2015, 2014... bah! I stopped there, nothing! Green sucks @OKC. And so because I'm crazy this season...

So yeah as some of you think, Game 4 is the game changer. Whoever wins that game most probably will win this series.

If OKC wins G4, it's Steph for G5 coz I am not risking not picking him, even though I believe Warriors will take G5. And then Klay in G6.

If GS wins G4, it's Waiters in G5 and Westbrook in G6.

Good luck!

  1. Klay sounds like a great bet for game 5, especially without Draymond.

If Draymond plays, shame on the NBA.

    .
I for one have already taken Klay Thompson, on May 16th with a total pra of 38(114). I will be waiting on the results of game 4 before I decide to play Chef. Even as an OKC fan I would love to use him at home. I just can't see GS losing 3 in a row. On to game 6 with Chef. So, in G5 I will be keeping an eye on the D. Green situation. If he plays I'm using him. Got to be a one hell of a come back game for him. He isn't going to throw up a dud again. If he is out I"m going with either Barns or Iguodala...
    ...
In the mean time I'm looking to play Patrick Patterson tonight.

  4. Taong, is it possible that you passed your curse onto me by mentioning me leading, back when I still halfway decent.

J.R.Smith went off right after I picked him. And Steven Adams? Was he hurt? I can´t see this in the statistics which is all I got. All I know is that we have Durant with 43 PRA, Westbrook with 50, Ibaka 22, Roberson 20 (that was the rest of the starting five), add to that Waiters 19, Kanter 23, and I had Adams for 14. Crap.

    Tonight it´s Joseph.

    But tomorrow...

It has to be a Warrior, probably one of the big 2. Even though, if you take for granted that the Dubs are going to win g5 at home, you might still wait one more game before taking on the big guns. Seeing as my picks this round tend to suck anyway I will probably go that rout. Should the Thunder win g4, it will be Thompson for g5 (win) and Curry for g6 (loss).

What is the worst that could happen? Either a 4-1 for the Thunder and I lose Curry (unlikely) or a 4-3 for the Warriors after a 1-3 and I would have to play the Finals only with Cavs.

I don´t like either idea, to be honest.

    1. I still get sucky picks, so can't say I passed it on :P

The guys at NBA got a hold of your ranking, got amazed, then got jealous, and made sure your picks don't get much sleep prior the game by sending them tweets in the middle of the night. That's my poorly thought-of conspiracy theory.

      The NBA, or aaant ;)

    2. You're in no position to complain. I got 25 from Paul George, 25 from Westbrook, 21 from Thompson and 13 from Draymond Green. To put that in context, I got more out of Zaza Pachulia than any of those.

    3. Nah, it´s only this round that I am completly lost. The first two rounds went mostly smooth. But this one? I picked Lowry in g3, he had foul trouble right from the start. The very next game? 35-5-5 with his first foul in the middle of the third quarter, thus limiting the time for my pick Cory Joseph who was sensation if you consider the time he spent on the floor. Close behind Carroll or Patterson but with just half the minutes. Wish he had played more, though.

  5. OKC came to play as they throttled Golden State in Game #3 at home and now hold a 2-1 advantage in this series. If they win Game #4, you have to really consider them as a huge threat to move to the finals.
Andre Iguodala (16 PRA) basically met his avergae PRA score and was only one better than rarely used Ian Clark (15 PRA) which sums up how absolutely miserable the entire Golden State team was on this night. Stephen Curry had 32 PRA and KLay Thompson had 20 PRA, which were both horrible games for them. Game #4 of this series will tell a lot in how to play this, at least it should anyway.

For tonight, Toronto stepped up in Game #3 after getting destroyed in both Game #1 and Game #2. If they win tonight, this becomes a series again with the Cavaliers having the home court edge. If Toronto loses, it is all but over for them, as they would almost surely get eliminated in Game #5 in Cleveland.

Bismack Biyombo (34 PRA) was a force to be reckoned with in Game #3. Natrually I picked him when he only put up 8 PRA (Net Loss of -26 PRA). Then I made matters worse by picking Luis Scola for 1 hideous PRA when he got the start in Game #3 (he was averaging at least 10+ PRA coming off the bench). So things are going absolutely stellar in this series for me. I am definitely cursed.

For tonight I will pick another Toronto Raptors player, as I still think their days are numbered and Cleveland looks very likely to move to the Finals. I will go with Kyle Lowry tonight. He has been absolutely dreadful up until Game #3 in this series, but in Game #3 he stepped up even though he was in serious foul trouble early and ended up with 29 PRA overall, which was good compared to what he was doing. Hopefully Kyle Lowry can even better that number tonight, playing in front of the home crowd. I also gave a long look at Cory Joseph but instead, but instead chose to go with Lowry. So Cory Joseph should be unstoppable tonight because of that.

I switched Ross for Joseph tonight, I hope I won't regret. I usually don't like switching my first option, because it uses to go wrong. But Cory is playing more time lately, and I am choosing the canadian at home...

And for tomorrow, no suspension for Green, so he gets my pick. Especially because he will be suspended after next flagrant he gets, which will come soon watching him play xD

  8. Looks like my pick for 5/18 got deleted. I picked Iguodala that day and tried to pick Patterson for 5/19, but looks like I messed up and selected 5/18 for PatPat too. I ended up picking Carroll instead on 5/19, and had both Andre and Pat logged for 5/18, but I picked Patterson today and once that got locked my 5/18 pick disappeared entirely. My pick was intended to be Iguodala (the guy who actually had a game that day), can that be restored? Thanks! (My username on drive and slam is ryannow)

  9. Hi there,

    My nick is ‘Pawel’.

I had a situation with my two picks on May 21st and May 22nd, as I didn’t notice that there were two games in a row scheduled for Cavs-Raptors serie.

I picked Serge Ibaka for May 21st and Patrick Patterson for May 22nd, when I should have to it all reverse.

Then I switched those picks, as the website still gave me the possibility to edit my picks.

Could you please accept those two picks:

    05/21/2016 – Patrick Patterson
    05-22/2016 – Serge Ibaka

As they both were my picks for games 3 in their respective series from the begining?

    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Regards,
    Pawel

  10. The game tonight is definitely a pivotal game. I have Klay Thompson in both formats. I have been tossing back and forth between Klay and Dray, but I think I've landed on Klay now. We shall see if my mind changes again before game time. Thompson's game is better suited for the road in this series than Draymond's is. Thompson doesn't get many rebounds or assists, so he will just be relying on his scoring. As Draymond needs rebounds (OKC more likely to shoot well at home) and assists (GS role players less likely to drain shots on the road), I'll steer away from the temptation to go for the bounce back for Green after he only got 13 PRA. Thompson only got 20 PRA last game. He too is a bounce back candidate.

I'm OK losing the 4x multiplier on Thompson, as I should still have plenty of talent left for the finals, assuming Golden State does advance. If the Thunder advance, I'm pretty done anyways.

    1. And now, I'm back to thinking Draymond. For the time being. I will likely switch it up even more before the game. It's been a while since I've been so back and forth between two players. Decision will not be final until just before tip off. Tribal council is going to be alive tonight for me!

As you are playing 2 games, you can pick both of them xD By the way, I like your argument to take Klay. But as I said I don't like switching, and my first thought after no suspension was picking Draymond. Also knowing that he will be suspended after next flagrant foul, and if this series go to game 6 or 7 maybe he will not be available when I need him. Anyway they will need them both at their best level to take game 4

      Delete
    3. I may ignore my own argument for Klay Thompson completely and pick Draymond. There is an argument to be made for him. Last game was awful. He will be booed mercilessly, and he's the type of guy who can thrive in that environment. I can already see the headlines in the newspaper tomorrow with a big picture of Draymond Green. The brain says Klay, but the heart says Dray.

And yes, with two games, I might pick different guys in both. Spread the wealth. But the classic DTTF is the one I caring about the most, so what I do there will be of the most importance.

Yes, I also think Draymond likes the "me against the world" motivation. As long as he doesn't kick an official's ass this time I think he will have a good game

  11. It was supposed to be two short series and the Finals rematch. Now? The Warriors might be in deep trouble and the Raptors just evened their series against all odds. Hmm...

Tonight I will go with a Warrior, but not (yet) one of the big two. I already picked Green, Iguodala and Barnes. So there is not much left anyway. I stand to my first stupid instinct and go with Ezeli. Why? Why not.

Suppose the Thunder win, then it will be probably Thompson in g5. IF the Dubs win then it will be Curry in g6. IF they force g7 then it will be Westbrook in that one and the only starters from the West for the Finals would be either Bogut or Roberson. Ugh.

Of course, if Golden State can take back homecourt with a win (thanks to 21/8 from Ezeli of course) then I might be golden after all. Haha, as if...

In the East I am starting to have nightmares of a BIG comeback by the Raptors. What if they manage to steal g5? Then it´s James in g6 and hope for the best. These Finals might get extremely ugly in this little game.

For me it will be a bench guy from the home team. Channing Frye, please shoot the threes (and make them, too) and help the Cavs to a 3-2 lead in the series. Then Carroll in g6 and wait for the Finals.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Toronto stepped up again big time at home and evened their series with Cleveland at 2-2. Now Cleveland still holds the edge 2 home games to 1, but they need to win Game #5 to ensure they keep pace by alternating home game wins with the Raptors. Any team losing a home game at this point is most likely finished.

Kyle Lowry (45 PRA) rebounded from some very lackluster games with a huge effort in Game #4, and I am very glad to have picked him on this night. DeMar DeRozan (38 PRA) and Bismack Biyombo (20 PRA) had big games and DeMarre Carroll (16 PRA), Patrick Patterson (16 PRA), and Cory Joseph (13 PRA) also had decent enough games.

Unfortunately, despite getting the great game from Kyle Lowry, the Raptors won, so it was only great picking him here if the Raptors actually eventually lose this series. If they win, that isn't that good at all towards the overall picture. This series certainly got much more interesting now to say the least, as just two days ago this looked like an easy advancement for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

  13. For tonight, OKC will attempt to take a commanding 3-1 lead over the defending champion Golden State Warriors. Should that happen, the Warriors could be in serious trouble. However a win by Golden State tonight gets them right back in this, so this is truly the most pivotal game of this series thus far.

With that in mind, I don't really have much to pick from OKC other than the Big 2, and I can't even remotely come up with another option from their roster right now without an incredible surprise coming out of nowhere that I simply cannot see. So I will go to the other side of the ledger, and pick a Golden State Warrior player tonight, but going with a scrub instead of one of their Big 3 (or 2 right now since Draymond Green has been poor). I would have really liked to see Andrew Bogut miss a game to play either Festus Ezeli or Marreese Speights, but that isn't happening yet at all. So I will pick Shaun Livingston tonight from the Golden State roster hoping for 15+ PRA out of him, or at least the roughly 10 PRA he has been putting up so far in this series. Livingston had a 21 PRA game once this year. I would be ecstatic if that happened, but I would be very shocked if it actually did.

  15. Good advice about picking Draymond Green on the road. Since he is horrible at OKC, I went with Klay Thompson and it went well with a GS lost. Now for G5, I want to pick Green at home and saved Curry for G6. I believe GS will not lose 3 in a row. I want to see if Curry will be guarding Robertson instead. He looks fatigue chasing Westbrook around and results in shooting poorly. Meaning Klay has to guard RW. Did some research on Thompson and Curry and neither of them are that good facing elimination. So hopefully this series goes to 6.

As for the ECF, I'm undecided if I should risk not picking 1 of the Cavs (big 3). Love and Irving are injury prone and I don't want to lose not picking just think of last season. I can saved Tristan for the finals since he fares well against OKC. With Frye playing more minutes in this series with his long distance shooting I'm leaning towards either picking Love or Frye. I expect this series could go all the way to 7 if both teams win on their homecourt.

  16. Okay, Taong, now is the time to change the title of this one from Panich Time? to Panic Time!!! Feel free to use more than one exclamation points.

The Thunder are up 3-1 now and it looks like Mavericks - Warriors 2007 all over again. I think the Dubs might eke out a close win at home before getting trounced in g6. If they even can get back there at all.

I will start with Klay Thompson in g5 and maybe/probably Steph Curry in g6. I really don´t hope they have to play a g7, because then I really would have to pick Russel Westbrook and have literally nobody but scrubs left for the Finals from this side of the Bracket. As would probably most other players here.

And whatever happens in the East? Is a Thunder - Raptors in the near future? I can´t believe we even have to think about that. At least the Cavs still have home court. Let´s hope they can take care of it. Best case scenatio they do that with Love still struggling and Frye being on fire in his place.

    Or... you know... not...

What happened to my pick last game? Nothing. Ezeli had a good 6/2 in the first quarter (I was really excited about that), and that was about it. He added 2/8 FTs and 1 assist for the remaining three quarters, playing hardly more than 10 minutes in all and staying on the bench when garbage time began. Pretty much a wasted pick. Still better than Kanter, though.

Roberson would have been the pick of the night, even though he will probably be a starter in the Finals I doubt he will reach those numbers (17/12) again.

This is another aspect of this game. It keeps the Playoffs interesting even after Dirk Nowitzki is eliminated (usually after the first round), but when it´s like that I am starting to dread the Finals. I can´t watch any of the games so all that´s keeping me on the edge of my seat is this game and the statistics after the fact when I work my way through the play-by-play 10-14 hours after the game is finished (and my day at work is over). There is a real danger that I might have to go into the next round with just some lowly Thunder and Raptor scrubs. Even if it levels up the field because let´s face it, most of us have picked the rosters of the Thunder (partly) and Raptors (completely) clean already. But going into the Finals just deciding which bench player might reach 8 PRA and which might only get 4? There´s no fun in that.

Was that the real reason the NBA suspended this game for this season? Sneaky NBA...
