Road Wins Galore

Grizzlies won? Another road win? Sure why not? Every series now is in flux. Loving that the playoffs are getting more interesting, and the NBA's slogan of "most unpredictable playoffs" in history is coming true.

The Rockets lost Game 1 to a Paul-less Clippers. I can understand that people sees that as strong sign that the Clips have this. However, Rockets just need to stop one Blake Griffin to control this series. Of course, when Paul comes back, Rockets will have more to handle. I honestly do not know how this will go. I'm staying away from this series until a team wins two.

As for the Cavs, they are still favored by the media to win this series. There are two changes in Game 2 that bodes that. First, LeBron said he'll do less of feeling and more of attacking. Second, Tristan replaces Miller on starting lineup, which gives Cavs a better chance on the defensive end. We'll see.

I am making a gamble (doesn't everybody lately?) ; I am picking Pau Gasol.

If Cavs and Rockets lose Game 2, get ready to slap your forehead.

  1. I'm picking Howard. In the most unlikely scenario that LAC and Chicago go 4-0 you only have 3 games left to pick 3 must picks (Harden, James, Irving) otherwise you wil throw away a +35 points performance (and there aren't many of those). Next round i will pick from the team that loses tonight (Rockets or Cavs) if both teams win... Still need to figure that one out :p

    1. None of these series will be sweeps just keep calm

    2. IF both series are a sweep (I doubt it, but you never know) then by picking Howard today, you would lose one of Harden, James, or Irving, because you'd have 3 players to pick and 2 games (#3 and #4). Fortunately, the chances of two sweeps is VERY low. Don't think too much about that. If it happens, I'm OK with losing Irving. I'm hopeful the Cavs win their series.

    3. Anyone who thinks any of these series could have sweeps is crazy. All these will go PLENTY of games, except maybe Grizzlies / Warriors which is already dead even. So Calmmmm Downnnnn

    4. Clippers could sweep the Rockets but I'll say 5 unless CP3 is out for the playoffs. Plenty would mean at least 6 games, I'll bank on 1 series ending in 5, of course that kind of hurts since the other series that shares that day would become the only series, 3rd round being all 1 game days but still having to save players for the finals is bad enough. For all I know, until the Bulls win a game not numbered Game #1 against a LeBron James team, that could end in 5 too.

      Delete
  2. I'm also thinking of gambling... LeBron James.

I think my Bulls have this series; I've thought it since Love went down. Can't see how a Thibs team will fail to contain 2 players, albeit one of them is a great of the game. The Cavs need LeBron to be a monster tonight.

I'm waaaay back in the 52nd percentile and need to make some moves. I've picked Rose, Blake, ZBo and Marc Gasol from the second round teams so far, and need to make some serious ground against the tide!

Can someone talk me out of this in the next 6 hours please?!

    1. If you want to make a bold move, Lebron definitly is the pick. He wants to be more aggressive in game 2, could result in a lot of extra rebounds and points and a 50+ game. If Cavs advance though you could get in some serious trouble

      Delete
    2. I have picked the same guys as you from 2nd round teams. I also will pick Lebron expecting 60 PRA.

      Delete
    3. Way to early to pick him even if you want to make ground, Cavs aren't out of this yet just because they lost the first game. Cavs have the 2 best players on the court from both teams and Lebron has lost all game 1 to the Bulls then gone 1-3 up.

Pick a Houston player they're the most likely to go out.

      Delete
    4. Pick a rocket since there are only 3 or 4 bulls worth picking or 2 cavs. The clippers rockets series is probably going to last 6 games at least which means you're going to have to pick 2-4 players from that series. You already used blake and probably cp3. That means you only have deandre left and you need to pick a minimum of 2 players. That means that you're going to have to pick a rocket even if they win the series.

    5. But I think Bulls is going to advance. :P

    6. Late switch to Dwight.

Had him pre-picked for Fridays game, so decided to bump him up and look at LeBron again after Game 2. Still think the Bulls win that series in 5.

  3. What an awful DTTF day yesterday was pra wise, You could have picked anyone and only moved up/down a couple spots making no gain, it was like the pra yesterday didn't matter.

Grizz won and I'm not surprised Conley is the team, with him they're tough to beat and for me he's a top 5 PG who doesn't get his due. Defensively locks down it's no surprise Curry struggled not that he will in all the other games but it will be tougher for him then against Spurs.

Hawks won which I knew would happen I expect them to go 3-1 up now, Wall was a surprising omission I think he should have suited up they may have been going home 2-0 instead its1-1 with a horrible home record in the playoffs. Teague for me needs to attk more but I still think Hawks will win this only a matter of time where their offense gets the better of Wizards who's surprisingly has been good.

Today's games are tricky as both road teams won their first game, if Cavs/Hou lose again for me Houston will be more in trouble then the Cavs because JR Smith will make a difference to the Cavs while Houston have everyone.

I'll hold off picking any of the 4 stars from both teams until after todays game's which in my opinion both home teams will win. Right now I have Shumpert and like my Crawford pick I want to take advantage of the mins he's getting. If not him I'll go with a Bull likely to be Noah.

  4. If I picked Gasol in 1st match, Who will be the Best today? No Griffin and CP3

  5. Can't believe the Grizzlies just went into the Warriors building and sent them to only their third home loss of the season. Still confident that the Warriors win this, but the series will not be a cakewalk. Saturday's pick is going to be a little bit more interesting. Probably going with a Wizard, likely Beal, since he's carrying their offense with Wall hurting and has proven that he steps his game up in the playoffs. This is reminding me so much of last year. Even with all the craziness last year, we should all remember that for the most part the favourites all won their series, so still should feel confident in Golden State, Atlanta, and Cleveland. The same cannot be said for Houston, because I don't believe they are the favourite. As Taong said, "Rockets just need to stop one Blake Griffin to control this series". The Spurs, with defensive player of the year Kawhi Leonard, one of the all time greats in Tim Duncan, and the best coach in the business, couldn't even slow down Griffin. What chance does Houston have? Howard is a great defender, but Griffin is not his cover. Who else do they have to stop Griffin? Blake Griffin had 26 points, 14 rebounds, and 13 assists in game 1. That is ludicrous, especially for a power forward, and he's done this all playoffs. Howard tonight, and Harden on Friday. Go Clippers!

  6. No cp tonight. Think about going to do another filler pick in either barnes or rivers. I had shump, since jr is out one more game, however I grt the feeling lbj gonna have himself a night and thereby making shump a bit useless in dttf terms... thoughts?

    1. I have Shump and I think he'll be fine he should get those numbers without Love/JR easily. What about Crawford ? he got me 30 maybe him...

  7. Hoping for 30+ out of Josh Smith tonight. Coming off a rough game. Clippers already happy with the split with no CP3.

  8. With the return of Mike Conley to the Memphis starting lineup, the Grizzlies did the unthinkable and seemingly impossible, beating the Warriors at Golden State. This was no easy feat considering that Conley hasn't played in quite awhile and Golden State is virtually unbeatable at home (only 2 losses all year, now three). That changes the dynamics of this series dramatically as this looked to be a sweep or at least a 5 gamer. Now it is the same as every other series with every home team throwing away one of their home games to start out their Round #2 series. This got very interesting and far more complicated all of a sudden. Going to be tough to avoid costly mistakes now, where you don't get to carry over the right players to the next round(s).

In the other series, Atlanta rebounded to take Game #2 as most expected, and even their series with Washington at 1-1. John Wall did not play, and that certainly was a help to Atlanta getting the must win they needed after punting away Game #1. The replacement for Wall, Ramon Sessions (28 PRA) stepped up nicely with very nearly the highest PRA score of the night. Never found out about this last second development until it was virtually too late to make a switch of picks. I would have really liked to pick Sessions in this spot and take advantage on not having to use anyone meaningful until you actually knew (or at least had a better idea) which teams would be moving on and which would be eliminated. Then you can pick from the proper teams, and retain the players you need for later rounds, without burning up too many resources.

They really need to get these lineup changes out earlier, and make them easier to find, so people know what is going on and can make informed decisions to their lineups. Now with things like DraftKings out there, Vegas, and other entities as well as DTTF for sure, this information is vital.

Unfortunately too late to do anything about picking Sessions, finding out about that switch too late to do anything about it. I stayed with my Tony Allen (15 PRA) pick. Naturally since I picked him he did not score 22 PRA like in Game #1 (Net Loss of -7 PRA) and I had to settle for less, plus Memphis won, so not good all the way around.

Best pick of the night (easy decision here): Ramon Sessions (28 PRA) who may or may not start again in this series or even Otto Porter (also 28 PRA) big game off the bench. Both players were nearly as good as the highest PRA earner(s) of the night, and you would still have those to play at a later time.

Got to take advantage of these gifts when they come available, and I have failed miserably to do so, so far in this 2015 DTTF season. I need to do a better job with this, taking advantage of these situations can really help you out by preserving your rosters for later once you have a better handle on how these series turn out, or even to give you more players to pick from, that might not ordinarily be players that will score well.

    ReplyDelete
  9. For tonight, as I mentioned above, it is best to take advantage of opportunities when they present themselves, and in turn can lead to lengthening your rosters over the good to great 3 to 5 players most teams have to pick from. Iman Shumpert (24 PRA in Game #1) will again be playing in place of the suspended JR Smith for one last game. Also Chris Paul is not likely to play again in Game #2 in the Houston vs. LA Clippers series, and that opens up the chance to play Austin Rivers (21 PRA in Game #1), JJ Redick (21 PRA in Game #1), or Jamal Crawford (30 PRA in Game #1), who all admirably stepped up in place of the missing Chris Paul with decent or great (Crawford) games. All would be great choices tonight, especially Rivers, or Shumpert, both who most likely won't start again after tonight.

Very tempted to go with Austin Rivers tonight, but with JR Smith ready to return in Game #3, and with Chris Paul still possibly hurt by then, I will go with Iman Shumpert tonight hoping for another 24+ PRA out of him in a home game start. I still believe the Clippers will eventually beat the Rockets, and I already used Blake Griffin, so I want to stay away from picking Clippers unless I have to, or play Austin Rivers who normally wouldn't be doing much of anything without him starting.

  10. Tell me. Josh Smith or Iman Shumpert tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Quite funny how I've managed to get everyone nearly on the Shump Wagon. I do think it's the right pick considering he wont get starter mins after this game. I did the same with Crawford and he got me 30 that was about 10-15pra better than he'll get when CP3 is back, he won't get close to that. Doc uses him differently maybe because he's aged they don't really rely on him scoring 20 in games nowdays.

So both these guys are good picks today even if they fail. Otherwise it has to be a Rocket.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Okay, the fourth road win, are they kidding me? Still think Golden State will win this series. Still think the Rockets will not. Absolutely no idea about the East series.

I did the rookie mistake (again) of switching my first choice. I had the third best PRA player of the Hawks, Carroll, then switched him for the second best, Horford. Too bad, because Caroll was the best scorer of the Hawks, scored more PRA than Horford (4, to be exact) and continued his streak to 6 games of 20+ points for a Hawk player. Sigh.

Admitted, it was a slow PRA night, we are talking of 28/32 PRA, but still I lost a good player right after a 41, 4 Rebounds for Horford? Really? He had 17 the game before and never less than 7.

For tonight it's a Rocket. I had picked Smith and am considering switching to Howard. But of course, I won't switch again. I am sure Howard will not go off now and Smith will light up like he did before :)

    1. I think J Smoove and Ariza are good picks. Think they'll blow out LAC if CP3 doesn't play

      Delete
    2. I think I will go with Ariza. Smith will have a tough time in this series dealing DJ and BG. I already used both BG32 and CP3, but I don't want to pick Crawford. Will really be short handed if they advanced to the next round. I can see all these series nodded at 1-1, which makes decisions tougher already.

    1. I had Shumpert penciled in for days, picked him & felt brilliant with 20 PRA in the first half, but then he gets injured right away in the 3rd. Unreal luck.

Shumpert was heading for a monster game after what he did in the first half.

  15. Harden and Howard both with 4 fouls in the middle of the 3rd quarter.

    ReplyDelete
  16. In 2 minutes Harden gets 10 PAR going from what looked like a sure under 37 with 23 PAR entering the 4th quarter and 4 fouls to suddenly 33 with over 7 minutes left... couldn't do that in Game 1. Not only that but after a promising first half with Josh Smith he hardly is on the floor in the 2nd half and when he was he got 4 FTs and missed 3 of those. Absolute garbage luck that only happens for my picks and miracles to picks in the games I don't them!

    ReplyDelete
  17. And people who picked Shumpert thought they had it bad.... you are forgetting aceee06 master of picking players in their worst games of the playoffs is playing DTTFs too. Josh Smith may have gotten injured too, he played just 3 minutes and got 1 point (1/4 free throws) the entire FREAKING 2nd half. Meanwhile James Harden gets 25 PAR in the final 15 minutes and goes 15/15 from the line, 3X as much as Game 1. Unreal! Why did CP3 have to freakin get hurt? I would still have Harden available to pick and little did I know CP3 would be out 2 games instead of just 1.
