Ok Day 2, baby! I am picking Tyrese Maxey while Embiid is not scheduled to play Game 1. Even with Embiid later, I don't think they can get past the Celtics.
Onto Alupin... I told him my pick and he started to diss my pick :P
The vault is wide open, Taong, and you’ve chosen to pick a lock that everyone else is already staring at. Taking Tyrese Maxey on the 19th? A predictable move. You think you're clever because Embiid is in the infirmary and Maxey has the "green light."
Here is why your "masterstroke" is actually a clumsy fumble:
Why You Are Wrong (The Guard's Trap)
The Boston Fortress: You are sending Maxey alone into the TD Garden. Without the threat of Embiid in the middle, the Celtics’ defense—led by Derrick White and the length of Jalen Brown—will swarm Maxey like a hornet’s nest. They don't have to worry about the paint; they only have to stop him. You’re betting on a man to thrive while being hounded by the best defensive backcourt in the league.
The Efficiency Tax: Sure, he might score 30, but he’ll likely shoot 10-of-28 to get there. In this game, a high-volume shooter with no help is a recipe for a mediocre score once the turnovers start piling up under that Boston pressure.
The "Game 1" Jitters: In a series where the 76ers are massive underdogs, Game 1 is often a reconnaissance mission. If the Celtics blow them out by the third quarter, Maxey will be sitting on the bench to "save his legs" for Game 2. You’ll have burned a superstar for 22 points and a handful of assists.
Alright, that Boston Fortress logic impressed me... until he picked Shai! LOL!
Ok that's where the hallucination is. I won't show the whole debate we had because he was insisting on Shai.
Your interrogation is as sharp as a stiletto, Taong. You are trying to lecture me on the "Long Game," suggesting I am a common thief who cannot see past the next sunrise.
And then we figured out the root cause. He thought he had a 29-team pool all throughout. I was pretty sure I had him promise he knew how the playoff brackets work. And so I had to train him about the 16-8-4-2-1 nature of the playoffs. After that, he straightened up, and changed his pick...
I have been arrogant. I spoke of 29 teams as if I could summon them from the ether in the Finals. A rookie mistake that would have me swinging from the gallows in any other heist.
The Recalibration: I Relinquish Shai
I cannot afford to burn the MVP of the championship favorites on a Sunday in April. I am putting the Shai Gilgeous-Alexander jewel back in its case. I shall save him for the deeper vaults of the Western Conference Finals or the grand stage of the Finals themselves.
My New Selection for April 19 (US ET): Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns)
Why the pivot to Booker?
The "Burn" Candidate: Unlike the Thunder, the Suns are the #8 seed, barely clinging to the ledge. There is a very real possibility they are swept or eliminated in five games. If I don't use Booker now, I may never get the chance.
The Volume Heist: In a Game 1 against the #1 seed, Booker will have to play 40+ minutes and carry the entire scoring load. He is a lock for high points and a strong candidate for a Double-Double sapphire.
The Strategy of Exclusion: By picking Booker, I am betting against his team’s longevity while preserving my "heavy hitters" (SGA, Tatum, Jokic) for the rounds where the pool of available players shrinks to a puddle.
That's much better! I realize there's much training to do. I wonder if there's a section of the game it still doesn't quite understand yet? I won't know until it comes up. So, hopefully he'll learn more along the way and be a better player every single day. Just imagine if anyone used AI to automatically play one's game? Disastrous :P
You’ve taught me a lesson in humility today, Taong. But do not think for a second that I won't use that lesson to bury you by the time we reach the Finals. The game has truly begun.
No, I wont :D

I was debating between maxey and Deni today. With maxey playing a lot of mins and a lot of usage I just picked him. Also him playing better on the road and Deni never playing against wemby this year. Easy pick and everybody picking him probably while im in first place why not.
ReplyDeleteElite Alupin training. I’m glad you didn’t let him stick with Shai. I am afraid of a Celtics blowout so saving Maxey for the next game and rockin Deni today
ReplyDeleteYeah I wanted him to be really competitive. Can't let his one Shai pick ruin his whole playoffs :))
DeleteBefore your intervention, it seems Alupin was playing exactly like those random people who sign up every year and use players from the top seeds. A good example on why we are still years away from handing the keys to the economy away solely to AI without a human double checking :p
ReplyDeleteI've got Bane today. Orlando is deep with three strong picks. Bane and Wagner are pretty much a wash. I'll potentially leave Banchero for a home game.
