Lobbed City

Boy, if you are a Thunder fan, you should be ecstatic by now. That. Was. Close!

And if you are a Clipper fan, you should be angry.

Never mind the discrepancy in referee calls, this series is 'da bomb! Honestly, five minutes left in the game, I was preparing to write my blog post to talk about road wins and how the Thunder are again in that 2-3 hole coming into Game 6. But alas, that ESPN Gamecast kept me fixed-in even before I finished a paragraph. Once KD hit a three and a layup, I hit the Delete button. This was going to be a whole different blog entry!

So, wow! That was something! A foul by CP3 on Westbrook's trey attempt? I don't know what to say, just shocked. The Thunder was on the edge of the cliff, and as the Clippers charge in to bash the Thunder off the cliff, the Thunder did a triple somersault over the Clippers and delivered a Tatsumaki Senpukyaku.

And now the Clippers are hanging on the edge of that cliff. The crowd in Staples Center will be roaring, but you have to put your best remaining Clipper forward. It's time again to pick a Clipper on Thursday, and mine is Chris Paul.

Chris Paul was man enough to own the failures that happened in Game 5, and I know he will be mega-motivated to will the team into a Game 6 win. Hopefully he fill in the stats sheet. Now if they win Game 6, then we have a problem... we'll discuss that when it does come to that.

As for the other match earlier, the Wizards were able to prolong their stay in the playoffs with a dominating win over the head-scratcher Pacers. The Pacers continue to bewilder us on what exactly is going on. Nevertheless, the Pacers have two more chances to not mess this up; and with Game 7 at home (Oh how I say "home" very lightly), the Pacers are still expected to win this series. I was shaking my head while typing that last sentence.

Let it rip!

  1. What a crazy finish. A lot for Clippers fans to be angry about. Even though the Clippers clearly fouled on the soon-to-be infamous out of bound play, it wasn't called, but how can the refs take a look at it and still say Thunder ball? Wow. I know who I'm picking for game 6. The amazing, incredible, DeAndre Jordan. After getting just 4 rebounds in Game 5 and fouling out, he really can't do much worse.

    1. Too bad for DeAndre: foul trouble and posterisation. This game was just an isolated case. He should be back to 20 PRA in Game 6 @LA.

    2. I've had DeAndre lined up for a home game, so this seems like a perfect opportunity. I like him in the friendly home that is Lob City.

  2. That was extremely rigged, i've never seen such a rigged nba game by far, it was ridiculous. What's the point of replay if your going to go there, look at it, and lie? Beyond bulls***

    1. If that was rigged then DTTF or not that was wrong and the Clippers should be up 3-2, if it wasn't then the Clippers have no one to blame but themselves. But you have every right and reason to be angry. The Clippers have gone through a lot first with Sterling and then this epic collapse/possible rig.

    2. I couldn't believe that either when they came back from reviewing the play, but still made the wrong call. What the heck were you looking at? And if you going to come back with the wrong call after reviewing the play anyway, why bother to look at it on replay at all? Seems too incredible to believe.

    .....Thunder UP !!!!!!

  4. Say what you want about it being rigged it wasn't. Clippers were just to sloppy with the basketball down the stretch. Not to mention that Reggie Jackson drive could have been called a foul. Now to where CP3's foul on Westbrook. That was a terrible shot and that would have rimmed out. CP3 has to know not to foul. Curry got fouled by CP3 on a last shot three even more and that wasn't called so Clippers fans shouldn't be complaining

  5. I told you that Wiz would win this series. I still believe! :)

    1. You certainly told me, Kusinski. Still, two more wins. Wiz has poor home record.

      Keep the faith

    2. Game 4 really hurts as this should be 3-2 Wizards, they are so bad at home 1-3 in the playoffs, 0-2 in this round and were outscored by a combined 41 points in the 2nd half of games 3 and 4. It should have been the Wizards moving on.

  6. I've got Batum and Paul lined up. Still betting on the Pacers, holding on to my Paul George card and many others. These Pacers are so bizarre, I'm seriously thinking they're going to miraculously play super well against the Heat next round & it will just be another chapter in the book of strange

  7. I've reached a point where I need my teams to win. I have to take chances and go with my gut. IND-OKC-SAN-MIA. I've taken all of 3 players off this list (KD, George and Stephenson). So at this point, it's gotta be Johnson/Pierce/Matthews tonight, then Griffin tomorrow.

Which leaves me with Hibbert, West, Hill, Chalmers and Wade (Allen, Watson) in a 5 game CF; Westbrook, Ibaka, Jackson, Ginobili, Butler (Splitter)

LeBron, Bosh, Parker, Duncan, Kahwi (Green, Splitter, Allen) in the finals.

Projects well so far if all my teams win. Sitting pretty in the 99th percentile at the moment.

  8. Series updates:

OKC rose from the dead to win Game #5 at home. Now in each of the last two games the road team has blown huge leads to allow the home team to win by a point or two. It is inexcusable how all of the home teams dig these kinds of holes for themselves, at least based on how home teams normally perform on their home court.

This year, the road team appears to have the advantage, and that is so different from the norm. In any event OKC/Clippers is anyone's guess at this point, but OKC has the advantage needing only 1 win of the next two, and the deciding 7th game would be on their home court (if that means anything this year).

Indiana reverted back to being the enigma that they have been for much of the second half of the season. This team completely lacks focus and resolve. Fortunately for them Washington is a horrible road team, which has kept them in this series. If somehow Washington figures out how to actually play well at home, they should wrap this up. Otherwise, Indiana will eventually move on. Confidence level in either of these teams is Zero at this point.

With LeBron carrying Miami to victory in Game #4 in Brooklyn, the Heat are on the verge of eliminating the Nets. The Nets best chance to make this interesting was if they won Game #4, which they did not eventually do. Brooklyn this year had a very poor road record this season (17-29), and their chances of making it out of Miami tonight are minimal. Miami win and clinch berth to the next round tonight (95% chance).

San Antonio has totally dominated Portland in both home games, and even won a road game convincingly in Game #3 as well. Don't worry about the Portland Game #4 win, that was Portland playing for pride, and the Spurs just wanting to wrap this up at home. San Antonio wins convincingly and clinches a move to the next round tonight (100% confidence).

So picking a Portland Trailblazer tonight, LaMarcus Aldridge. Hopefully he rebounds from some subpar performances, and has a big game tonight, in what will most likely be his last game of the year. He won't get 66 PRA or 52 PRA like he did vs. the defenseless Houston Rockets, but I feel he is still quite capable of posting 40+ PRA tonight vs. the Spurs, and I really hope that this happens.

    1. In paragraph 2 that should read:

*Washington is a horrible home team. (not road team)

      Good luck with Aldridge

  9. Never mind the crazy finish in OKC, what about Marcin Gortat? 31/16? Where did that come from? I am glad I had John Wall, but what Gortat did was incredible. Too bad no one looks at the Wizards but everyone focuses on the Pacers.

So, theoretically I still have time to use Beal in game 6 and maybe Ariza in game 7, but there is that other series to think about. While I think the Clippers will force a game 7 I still can´t let BG go to waste. So it´s Griffin tomorrow. If they Clips had won the game, I would be in deep trouble as I haven´t picked any Thunder yet.

Hmm... I have every Spur, Heat or Thunder player and played only George and West of the probable conference finalists. I wonder why I am so far behind everybody else, even with the 58 pts that I add in my head to my score. Too many bad picks I guess.

The playoffs are funny this year. After that first round it sure looked like round 2 would be easier, what with three series with the favorites up 3-1 after four games. But, lo and behold, it obviously isn´t over until the fat lady sings. Pretty sure, though, that the Spurs and the Heat will wrap up tonight.

Was a tossup between Lopez and Matthews (and Livingston) for me, I decided to go with Matthews. Hope he has a good game and the Spurs will win it anyway.

  11. I was surprised how many people on the leaderboard actually picked Marcin Gortat last night. After his last two horrible games, you would have thought more people would have been scared away.

    1. Actually I look at it differently....
...When a player goes goes on a streak of low or high PRA games I look for them to bounce back...
.. I only see superstars putting up high PRA in a good run of games...
..All other players move up and down...
      ...
like the SAS players... I can promise you Ginobili gets more than a 6pra(his last game) AND Duncan and Parker get more than they got last game...... I would not be scare do take either one of those 3 in tonight's game

    2. Re: Marcin Gortat

I looked and most of them already used Wall-Beal-Ariza. That is why they picked Gortat on that elim game.

Except La Pulpa, I'm not sure what he saw in Gortat over Ariza.

    3. My brother picked Gortat over Ariza. He just like Gortat and didn't fear his bad games. He had him in fantasy all season and viewed him as a stud.

    7. DWill did well too. He was a good pick. I was pretty happy when I got a 23 PRA in Game 1. That's when you got 46 from Aldridge. So actually we came out even on our Game 1 and Game 5 picks. Interesting.
